Portable air conditioning systems
- Floor standing units with either an exhaust duct or a condenser on the end of hoses
- Can be easily moved around and also disconnected and packed away when not in use
- Available in cooling only and in reverse cycle options
- Best suited for small rooms up to 20 square meters
- Price range $400 - $1500+
Window / Wall (box) air conditioning units
- Fits into the upper or lower half of a window or wall
- Cooling mechanism and output device are part of the same unit
- Disadvantage: can be heard working inside the room
- Available in cooling only and in reverse cycle options
- Best suited for areas up to 50 square meters
- Price depends on power output of the unit
- Price range $550 - $2400+ (not including installation)
Split (hi-wall) air conditioning systems
- Compressor (outdoor unit) is placed externally (keeping noise outside)
- Evaporator (indoor unit) on an inside wall or in the ceiling or sometimes even floor standing
- Outdoor unit can be connected to more than one indoor unit to heat or cool more than one room
- Available in cooling only and in reverse cycle options
- Suitable for rooms up to 60 square meters
- Price depends on size and number of splits
- Price range of a 2.5 HP unit $1000 - $1500 (not including installation)
Ducted air conditioning systems
- Used to cool part or entire homes, offices and buildings
- Usually is a split system in roof space or under floor
- Cool air is piped down duct and through vents in ceilings or floors
- Usually is ‘zone controlled’ which allows different areas to be air conditioned when occupied. On some systems you can even have different temperatures in different zones at the same time!
- Price range $6,500 – 12,000+ (installed)
