Air Conditioning Explained

The success of any air conditioning system relies on many things.

  • The Sales Engineer
    • The Sales Engineer needs to be able to discuss with the client, how the client uses the building, which way the building  is facing, insulation, zone requirements, client expectations, special needs, etc.
    • They must be able to do an accurate heat-load on the home, office or building to ensure the correct size unit is chosen.
    • They must have an excellent knowledge of what is available on the market for different applications.
    • They must design a system for the intended use and provide an accurate fixed price.
    • Also be able to explain the quotation in full to the client.
  • The Installers
    • The Installers must be clean, tidy and respectful to the client and their belongings.
    • They must be licensed, experienced for the work involved and understand how to install air conditioning to the manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Installers must take every opportunity to involve the client in the decision making process.
  • The Supervisor
    • The Supervisor is involved shortly after the contract is signed. He ensures that the installation runs smoothly, checking component orders and workmanship.
    • The Supervisor also liases with the client and /or builders.
  • The Unit Manufacturer
    • The Manufacturer is most important; the unit you choose will be installed and operating for a very long time, usually a system will continue to operate for approximately 20 years.
    • The unit must deliver the capacity promised and also must be quiet and be well below sound pressure restrictions.
    • Reliability, back up service, parts availability and warranty is paramount.
  • Duct and Components
    • This day and age, the ductwork must be of the highest quality. Quality duct with polyester insulation, foil outer sheath, Mylar inner that is supported by spring steel ribbing (to be crush proof). The duct should be fire resistant and mould and mildew resistant.
    • Fittings like Branch take offs, Supply and Return Starters, Zone motors etc must all be insulated to prevent sweating of these components. And insulated against the heat in the roof space, to prevent losing performance.
  • The Company
    • The company must be able to pull all of the above items together to provide wonderful air conditioning and at the end of the day provide all of this as a pleasant experience.
    • DESIGN AIR and its TEAM are the company to do this for you.
